Lauren has been working on an icon set for Shift for several weeks now. We would like to introduce the new icon for Shift.

As always, please let us know of any suggestions or comments.

  2. Oh wow! that is one awesome icon. For tough guys and gals :)

  3. It looks cool this size but in the Dock its a little hard to identify because all the dark parts blur to one plain dark something.

  4. I'm sorry but I don't like it so much. I find it too dark and too "heavy" to be in the Mac OS X icon style.

Perhaps a little bit more light and "candy" would do the job.

Anyway, I follow your project with interest. Thank you for doing this!

  6. The icon looks great. I can't wait to see the new icon set in action.

  7. I think it's perfect! I don't have any problem picking it apart from other icons in the dock

But if i was to try and keep the other comments hear happy, i'd probably adjust the colors to be more like the Leopard system preferences icon and see how it looks.

  8. I have to say I'm not too fond of it. There's nothing wrong with the image or the concept in itself, but it doesn't feel like an OS X icon. Just look at how badly it blends with the other icons in this image: http://blog.shiftosx.com/uploads/preferences.png.

Also, it doesn't feel like an icon for an easy-to-use database app. It's much too dark and busy for that.

I'd go for something lighter and slightly more stylized.

  9. The use of the Dock icon in the Preferences panel at the moment is not per-HIG; there will be toolbar-specific variations which adapt the design to a lower level of detail (and specifically, for the toolbars the icon will take on a head-on perspective).

  10. I agree with Jonathan. In my opionion it's too photo realistic, too much noise, too much dirt. It just doesn't "feel" like an OSX icon. I liked the old icon much more.

  11. Too complex and unfriendly. Appears worn and tattered. Excepting a simple, friendly and clean icon. 3 gears is more than enough. Can appreciate the effort Lauren! Looking forward to seeing a new revision!
